Benjamin Scott - at a glance

Benjamin Scott is a writer and creative writing tutor. He is passionate about inspiring young readers and young writers, having worked with children from reception and primary school age through to young adults in further education,

As half of Max Chase, he has ghost-written five books in the 7-to-9 year old fiction series, Star Fighters. Since then he has also contributed three books to a well-known fantasy series for children of the same age and written two books for an educational publisher.

 

The opening chapters of his young-adult novel, The Summoning of Freiya Rolandson, earned an Honorary Mention in the SCBWI-BI Undiscovered Voices 2010 competition. With his agent Gillie Russell guiding him, Benjamin is currently developing a new young adult novel. He has been a reviewer for the specialist children’s book magazine, Carousel, since 2008, reading amazing books from picture books and early readers, to middle grade and YA, as well as a range of non-fiction. 

He's also co-authored a job-hunting guide for graduates, Turn Your Degree into a Career (How To Books, 2003), and edited an anthology of short stories called Undercurrents (Gatehouse Press, 2008).

 

Benjamin has taught regularly at the Writers' Summer School at Swanwick - facilitating several specialist four-part workshops on Writing for Children and writing for Older and YA audiences. He has also tutors for the Oxford University's Continuing Education Department's online Young Adult Fiction course and taught on the Creative Writing A'Level for City College Norfolk. Visit "Workshops and Classes" to find out more about the courses he teaches.
